Do any of these resonate with you?

I think about food all the time. I spend a lot of time planning exactly what, when, and/or how much I’m going to eat.

I feel like eating is the only way I can cope with stress or difficult emotions.

I get upset when I miss a workout or when I don’t reach a certain number of steps per day.

I tend to go through cycles of dieting, and I like to try the latest diets I hear about.

I try not to eat all day, and then I end up overeating at night and feeling physically and/or emotionally bad.

I avoid social gatherings if I know there will be food (or certain types of food) there.

I feel like I have to “earn” my food through burning calories.

I decide if it's been a good or bad day based on what I’ve eaten, how much I’ve exercised and what my body looks like.

Would you say you have a complicated relationship with food, exercise, or your body? If so, you are not alone.

If so, you may benefit from exploring these topics in counseling! A lot of people may not even realize the extent to which thoughts or self-imposed rules around food, movement, and their bodies end up controlling their lives. You deserve more than to feel trapped by these thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
